Proprioception

Proprioception refers to the sense of joint position. Proprioception training is used in Physiotherapy for rehabilitation and injury prevention.

The proprioceptive system consist of receptor nerves that are located in muscles, joints and ligaments around joints. The receptors nerves can sense tension and stretch and pass this information to the brain where it is processed. The brain responds by signaling the muscles to contract or relax in order to produce the desired movement. After an injury these nerve receptors are also damaged, making them send inaccurate information to the brain.

Corfu Physiotherapy uses the Proprioception platform Biokin that improves the balance, increases the agility and develops muscle tone offering the patient and the Physiotherapist detailed visual information on the mobility of joints and the patient's kinaesthetic ability while it records recovery process data.
